Standalone Gas Detector

Continental Laboratories standalone gas detection system incorporates the newest infrared technology in the industry today. Continental worked with industry leaders in the development of a system that that could accurately read low and high levels of methane gases in environments where heavy gases (Ethane, Propane, and Butane) are present.

Infrared technology operates on the infrared absorption principle. A beam of modulated light is projected from an internal infrared source to a reflector, which sends it back to a pair of infrared sensors. The ratio of the active to the reference wavelength is computed within the infrared detector to determine the concentration of gas present. This value is then converted into a current output for external display.

The standalone gas detection system was designed to work well in the presence of high concentrations of constant background levels of hydrocarbons and oxygen depleted atmospheres. It provides our customers with a stable, accurate virtually maintenance-free standalone gas detection system that operates superbly within the harsh environments of the oil & gas industry.
